How I saved over £300 on my energy bills and so can you
Its that time of year when we as a family reassess what we are paying out in terms of our household bills. We seem to do it every January and then again about halfway through the year. It’s a good idea I think to look at your bank accounts, mortgage and bills and just keep an eye on any changes that have happened. One thing we always look at is our gas and electricity, as its such a lot to pay each month. We are a family of four, I work from home, and with two girls we have to be careful as we use a lot of gas and electricity in my opinion. That’s why when WeFlip contacted me to ask us whether we would be up for the challenge of looking at whether they could beat our current tariff, I jumped at the chance.
Ok, so, first of all, I thought I would give you an idea of what you need to do in order to change energy providers and find where you can get the cheapest deal and then I wanted to show you how much we saved by flipping! First up, get onto the WeFlip site and you will see that if you sign up to WeFlip you will receive £30 Amazon voucher for signing up until the end of July 2019. Here are the T’s & C’s and that’s on top of any savings that you make by switching.
I would recommend that you go online and bring up the Gas and/or Electricity account you have currently. Mine was with NPower, and we were tied in until next year. A quick check told me I needed to pay £60 to get out of the deal I was in, so I needed to factor that into whether I could save money. Now bring up the WeFlip site : www.weflip.com. Add your postcode and house number to bring up your address, then choose whether you have a dual or sole gas or electricity, we always tend to have dual as I think there are more savings to make that way. This will then lead you to select the supplier you currently have, plus the tariff you are on. All this information was really obvious on my account and I could easily add the amount of energy I was using in order for WeFlip to accurately give me the figures on what I could be saving by switching. Honestly, it was so easy!
I was so blown away when after completing the above, which took less than 5 minutes, it gave me a list of lots of companies that could beat the price I currently pay.
How I saved over £300 on my energy bills :
So as you can see, the biggest saving we could make as a household is with TOTO Energy -£338. I liked that it was a fixed direct debit (variable tariff) and that there was no exit fee. So if there is a new tariff I can swap again with no extra fees. I googled TOTO Energy and they seem like a great company service wise, but I also wanted to see if I had any offers from the big six energy suppliers.
Here are two examples of my savings, the first being the greatest saving I would make with one of the big six energy suppliers :
If I switch to Eon – £219 take off the early exit charge of £60 and add the Amazon voucher £30.
Saving therefore equals
£162
If I switch to TOTO Energy -£338 take of the early exit charge I have to pay and add the£30 Amazon voucher.
£308
This is, of course, using our usage of gas and electricity…I’d be interested to see what yours would be!
After a little bit of research, we decided we would switch to Toto Energy, as we were amazed and impressed at what the yearly saving would be. So the next stage to add in your payment details to the WeFlip site and a few more details like name and date of birth.
How I saved over £300 on my energy bills and so can you
You can at this point you can also be added to the Priority Services Register. This is a free service provided by suppliers and network operators to consumers in need. This could be if you are disabled or chronically sick, have a hearing or visual impairment or are in a vulnerable situation.
So now we are all signed up, and it should take around 17 days to be complete. For the first 14 days, your flip enters a cooling-off period, so you can still cancel if you change your mind. In the meantime, you then should receive a letter or email from your existing supplier. It’s from then the new supplier should be in contact with you confirming everything. If you haven’t heard anything after three weeks, then the advice is to contact the WeFlip team – hello@weflip.com or freephone us on 0800 470 4700
So we are all signed up and the next thing I need to think about is what to do with extra money!
Please do let me know what your saving would be if you signed up HERE’S the link for you again.
