A kid’s bedroom must fulfil multiple roles as they progress through childhood. It must stand up to the rigours of children playing and exploring, but it must also offer sanctuary, and feel comfortable and invite a good night’s sleep. A kid’s bedroom can be chaotic and messy, which takes valuable time to keep orderly and clean. So in this post, I’m going to look at some space saving ideas to make a bedroom the best it could be.
There are many ways to increase the liveable space in your kids’ bedroom without breaking the bank. Not only will you want your kids’ bedroom to be clean and enjoyable for them to play and learn in, but it must also function as any other room of the house. By selecting the right kid’s beds and furniture, you can assure the room has enough space for your kids to live and enjoy.
Trundle beds.
Kids trundle beds are an excellent way of creating more space for sleepovers or siblings who want to share a room. A trundle bed looks and functions like a regular bed until the time comes for an extra bed. Trundle beds hide a mattress on wheels (the trundle) underneath the normal bed, giving you two beds for the space of one.
Bunk beds.
A staple of kids bedrooms worldwide. Bunk beds give you a more permanent multibed solution. There are many fantastic bunk beds on the market, and it really comes down to your tastes and budget which one you choose. If you have siblings sharing a room, a bunk bed is an exciting and flexible bedding option. An unused bunk can double as storage, keeping the room neat and tidy.
bedside tables.
A kids bedside table is a perfect partner to a kid’s bed and offers a “grown-up” touch to their room. A bedside table is a perfect place for a night light or reading lamp too, for those who have not yet concerned their fear of the dark. Look for a bedside table with drawers as this gives you even more options when organizing your kids’ toys and belongings.
Kids desk.
Another “grown-up” addition to a kid’s bedroom, a desk is a versatile and invaluable piece of furniture. A desk can act as a study space or a launchpad for the budding artist. It can also give your kid a sense of purpose, as they have a set surface for activities. Again, kids’ desks come in all shapes and sizes but look for solid construction and rounded edges. Some desks feature draws, which as with other mentioned items of furniture, will help keep everything tidy.
Toy chest.
If your kid has accumulated an impressive collection of toys, you might find them inhabiting the floor more often than you would like. A toy chest can be a great way to introduce some routine and responsibility to your child’s bedroom. Packing away toys after playtime can be made into a game itself, giving you more time to relax as your kid packs up after themselves. A toy chest will keep your kid’s bedroom spacious and clean, and save toys from being crushed underfoot.
Designing and decorating a kids bedroom need not be difficult, it just takes some for thought and of course the right furniture. Look out for multipurpose pieces such as a bed with hooks for hanging clothes, or a study desk with inbuilt drawers. The most important aspect of keeping a kid’s bedroom spacious is keeping it clean. Keeping it clean will be easier for you and your kid if they have clever storage solutions.
