Miss A is just about to turn 6, and her bedroom was starting to look a little tired. We thought it needed to be freshened up a little, and made a little more grown up. We will be redecorating soon, but there is no real rush for that, as we will do both of the girls rooms in the next month or so, as Nia’s bedroom is having a major (and very exciting) room revamp in a couple of months time.
Here’s a few images of what it did looked like :
Just out of shot was a small desk and chair in pine, that was passed down to her from Nia, it was definitely looking tired, and in fact she had gotten too tall for it really.
So over the last few weeks I’ve been spending some time decluttering, and looking for ideas that would give the room a bit of a refresh. I began my search on Pinterest, and started researching ideas on there. That’s the thing with pinterest, if you do spot something, you can pin it onto your board, and then its always there to refer back to.
Here’s my board, if you’d like to see some kids bedroom inspiration:

I love the monochrome trend for children’s bedrooms, but Miss A loves colour, so a black and white theme was out really. I found a great shop thanks to Pinterest that sold fabric wall stickers of clouds, to add some interest and colour to the wall, and was lucky enough to be offered a new chair and desk by the Great Little Trading Company – is it just me who always want to call it the Good Little trading company?
In white-painted solid wood frame with MDF panels. It’s just perfect, as it’s for age 5+, and it will definitely last a few years as both the quality is good, and its got growing room too.
I also set her up a notice board with some photographs and postcards on too (seen just behind her) so it felt more like a little office area for her to read, colour and do her homework.
The Great Little Trading desk, looks like a modern take on a traditional school desk, it costs £135 which is great value really for something that really feels like it will last. The chair you order separately and its called a Nelson Chair, priced at £75. Both items come boxed for self assembly, but this only takes around half an hour for the both of them, and was simple to complete, with well written instructions.
She was quick to fill up and begin accessorizing.
I’m really pleased with how the cloud turned out, they peel off really quickly ( I needed to do this a few times as I was readjusting the raindrops) and don’t take any paint off, so we can reapply them once we’ve redecorated.
Miss A’s stereo has unfortunately broken, as she loves listening to pop music, we decided to let her have the Roberts radio in her room for the time being.
The desk has plenty of space inside to fit lots of pads and pens as well as a cork board, perfect for leaving little messages, or adding Miss A’s favourite photographs. There is a main compartment, and two smaller sections. A big bonus, is that the desk lid keeps itself open, our old one didn’t and it was so annoying and made the desk a nightmare to use day-to-day.
We also went for some new bed linen from BHS. It’s this map printed bedding set, priced at £25 for a single set. In grey and white it added a different and definitely more grown up feel to the room, compared to her pink flowery bedlinen.
Have you spotted her new best friend Rosie? Rosie (named by Miss A) is a gorgeous mohair bear that’s been made especially for her by Canterbury Bears. It is beautifully made, a hard body of a traditional bear, but not too hard, so perfect to cuddle!
It really is LOVE!
She actually wears a red dress, but she’d gotten changed for bed (?!) when we took these photographs so I’ll post another one tomorrow of her fully dressed.
With a little rose in her ear, I can see why Miss A choose the name!
So that is our mini room makeover and freshen up, I think its really brightened up the room, and looks more modern now. Which is your favourite bit?

A gorgeous room for a gorgeous little girl. I love the mix of old and new and the neutrals and pops of colours. The wall stickers are great and really great accent between the postcards.

I love that desk! I had one similar that I picked up from a second hand shop, but I sold it when I moved house – I so wish I’d kept it & painted it now!

Oh that all looks really lovely. I love GLTC, we have storage cubes from there and they are fab. That looks so lovely, the bed linen is gorgeous too. I recently changed my A’s bedroom too, I bought her a desk and some new shelves as I felt she needed a more grown up room.

Really beautiful! I love that white desk. We bought a toy kitchen from the Great Little Trading Company and is such good quality. That bedding is beautiful too. Mr B would love that! Do they do a double set?

What a gorgeous little desk and chair! I’ve been looking for something like that for T to have in his playroom, it sounds like it was great value and will last a good while. Love the clouds too – those wall transfers are one of the best inventions ever, I love how they make it possible to change a room’s look significantly without doing a huge paint job! x

Miss E has asked for a desk for her birthday and that one is just divine, I better start saving. Mich x

I love that desk. It’s exactly the sort of thing that I was trying to find for LMC’s room, but unfortunately out of our budget. Instead I’m searching eBay for an old school desk that I can Annie Sloan up to make it look similar. I just need to make sure it has a mechanism to keep it open – or add one to do so.
