So how am I going to do design my own eco-friendly Christmas? Well its those small things that we all do, that make the big impression I think. I’m going to make my own cracker gifts this year, as that’s one tradition I’m not ready to give up. So on each place for dinner, I’m going to have a piece of jewelry from the company Printful. Printful that has a facility to design your own jewelry. Something special and with lots of thought behind it, that can be worn all the time, perfect! I’ve spotted that I can use my Cricut to make crackers for these to go into, and for anyone who jewelry isn’t suitable for how about these gin crackers, they are fab!
I’ve been thinking a lot about gift-giving this Christmas and been planning on writing up some gift guides again. I had decided against it this year as I want to try to follow a more waste-free Christmas, but then realised it would a good way to highlight some eco products as well as other things we will definitely be gifting as I know my friends and family NEED and want them. I have children and it’s important that I discuss and reflect what’s happening in the world today. All of those extras are definitely going though. I’m trying not to add stocking fillers that won’t be used or eaten. I’m sure I’m not alone to have bought and given these in the past.
We have a fake tree already, and have had the same one for around 4 years. We have also had the same decorations for it for longer than that, and we only ever buy an occasional extra couple each year. And that’s OK I think, and all I will do is continue to use this artificial one, so I’m not producing any extra waste.
I’m the sole vegetarian in the family, but I’m going to definitely make sure I serve up even more vegetarian recipes this year. I’m going to choose things (as much as I can) without excessive packaging and loose. I’m also going to make a concerted effort to have minimal leftovers and waste.
When we are shopping, I’m going to be using public transport and not taking the car. Shopping local is definitely my first choice. We are also trying to look into alternatives to the wrapping of presents, and I’m thinking of making some of my own sacks that can be reused. I already have a few, and I know they work well.
I’m sorry to anyone expecting a Christmas card as those are gone! I’ll be honest and say I’m not a big fan anyway so this is a welcome change. SO those are my ideas, how about you how are you designing your own eco-friendly Christmas?
