These days, everyone seems very busy that it can be hard to find time for family activities, even if it means going on short weekend trips. But studies show that going on holiday breaks can do wonders for your child’s emotional, social, and psychological health.
The good news is that you don’t need to leave the UK for a great weekend getaway. Whether it’s camping in Cornwall, seeing a play in London or exploring castles in Scotland, the UK has a lot to offer for family-friendly weekend getaways. Here are some of them.
City Break in London
London might be pretty chaotic sometimes and it’s probably not a good idea for a relaxing weekend getaway, but there are tons of relaxing activities in London that your family can try.
Kick-off your weekend with a sumptuous breakfast at the Piazza Terrace Breakfast of Sushisamba at the Covent Garden’s Market Building. Then take the kids to explore the city’s top attractions, including the Tower of London and the London Eye. During the day explore the city’s best parks, such as the Regent’s Park and St. James’s Park. Cap off your day watching your favourite show at the West End Musical, at night time, where there is plenty to do in London.
Relaxing Cottage break in the Cotswold’s
Located right at the heart of England, the Cotswolds is a popular destination for British families who wanted to recharge in nature. With its stunning countryside and charming, accommodation, such as Independent Cottages, spending a weekend at the Cotswolds is truly relaxing.
On our weekend getaway in the Cotswolds, we booked a charming cottage with enough room to accommodate the entire family. We also had fun exploring the nearby attractions, such as the Cogges Manor Farm, Birdland Park and Gardens, and the Blenheim Palace.
Go Hiking in the Lake District
If your family is into hiking, then the best destination for your weekend getaway in the UK is the Lake District. It’s a World Heritage Site and the largest national park in the UK. The park is known for its gorgeous landscapes that offer canoeing opportunities, scenic walks, and several other outdoor activities. Hiking at the Lake District National Park is an activity that anyone can take part in. They have different trails suitable for all experience levels, including younger kids.
Camping in Cornwall
In summer, Cornwall is one of the hottest places in the UK, which is why a lot of British families would come here for a summer break. Aside from frolicking at the beach, there are several other activities that families with kids can enjoy, whilst on a camping holiday in Cornwall. You can visit the Newquay Zoo, explore the National Maritime Museum, or discover the Carnglaze Caverns. And in case you didn’t know, Cornwall has its own indoor rainforest called the Eden Project, a must-visit especially for families with small kids.
Discover Castles in Scotland
Discovering the charming castles of Scotland is a fun way to entertain your kids over the weekend. There are plenty of castles scattered all over Scotland that you may not be able to visit all of them on a short weekend break. But some of the best ones to visit with your kids are the Kelburn Castle, Stirling Castle, Scone Palace, and the Blair Castle and Gardens.
