We travel with just hand luggage more often than not, now when we go away. It’s a case of the ease of travel for us and not having to wait for luggage that’s been in the hold after a flight. It’s often a lot cheaper too. I for one tend to travel with a laptop, my husband especially if its a long trip, travels with his laptop too. Of course, sometimes both of us also have work trips where we need to also bring a laptop. Are you and your family similar?
I was offered to review a new suitcase for an upcoming family trip. Unfortunately, I didn’t order it in good enough time (totally my fault) as it arrived incredibly quickly. Once the Jay & Em ONE (great name) arrived, I made sure it was used for the next trip my husband made (for work) to London. He needed to stay for 3 nights so wanted both formal and informal clothing and a couple of pairs of shoes so definitely more than his usual suit carrier could carry. It worked brilliantly and he LOVED the Jay & Em ONE! I’ll explain the features of the luggage in this post, as its not just an ordinary case, but also in his own words why he loved using it.
How it looks without a laptop bag.
This Jey & Em ONE carry-on luggage is silver-grey with black trimming. It also comes in an all-black version. Equipped with smart technology, close-range tracking, and a detachable laptop bag (a choice of two or both) that easily clicks into the front of the luggage bag using the german system Fidlock.
It’s made from high-quality polycarbonate and contains a removable 1200mah power bank to charge multiple devices on the go. An important feature is that the power bank is approved by all airlines for air travel. Invaluable as I know I’ve come across not being able to travel with power banks on a flight.
They’re a choice of two separate laptop bags :
The BAG is made of waterproof TPR material and is big enough to fit your laptop, tablet, smartphone, keys, chargers, cables, and enough space for more. With 1 main compartment for your laptop, 1 large pocket with divisions inside, and an invisible front pocket at the front for papers. Great for travel documents, I think. The bag also includes a handle to allow you to carry it as a briefcase.
The SLEEVE is slimmer and designed for the minimalist traveller. It has a main compartment for the laptop and tablet, and pockets. An additional elastic pocket at the front to keep documents or other small items.
The bag and the sleeve both have protection for a laptop with a double layer of highly shock absorbant EVA. The zips you can tell are really good quality as they glide as you open and close them. It’s the same for the luggage too.
Specifications:
Size: 40 cm x 55 cm x 20 cm
Weight luggage: 3.4 kg
Volume luggage: 33L
Material luggage: Polycarbonate
Material laptop Sleeve: Neoprene with jersey laminated eva shell
Material laptop Bag: Nylon rear and front with TPR fabric, inside is microfiber for optimal care of the devices.
The case features an easy pull-up and push-down handle, allowing you to walk freely with your luggage. There’s also an additional static plastic strap for handheld carrying for transporting upstairs for example.
To connect the laptop bag or sleeve to the front of the carry on luggage is something that we practised a couple of times. It is simple to do, but its something that has a nack to it, so to make sure you don’t damage the mechanism I’d say have a couple of go’s before you travel. You can see me above pulling the red tab, which is what disconnects the laptop sleeve or bag away from the luggage.
This shows the smaller of the laptop bags: the sleeve. It keeps the luggage having a slim profile. Do you notice that the image on the left shows a slight tilt? It’s the patented 5 degrees tilt to the back, so the ONE is very stable even when you have a heavy laptop case at the front. Overall the case feels roomy internally, and it is with around 15% more space than the average suitcase of the same size.
Even the interior was carefully designed: it has 2 fully divided compartments closed with zippers (this is a design detail that I am totally on board with) and two easily accessible pockets for your toiletries or smaller items. Both my husband and I love everything to be organised, and this makes it so much easier.
Ease of movement, even on an uneven floor was great, it felt stable and the wheels didn’t lock. Having your laptop in front of your luggage means it has to be safe and secure. Jay & Em have even thought about that with a special front TSA lock where you can lock your laptop case so it cannot be stolen or removed by mistake. There’s also a Fidlock™: a German magnetic fastener that can hold in total over 50kg.
We love the bag, as it really is different to any luggage that we have ever owned. It’s a well built and impressive design that has lots of features that it makes you wonder why all suitcases don’t have them. Well, I’m very grateful to Jay & Em for the clever way they put them all together in this stylish beautifully designed case. I promise next time I’m away I’ll share a photo of me using it, I’m trying hard not to get territorial and keep it for myself…well my name is on it!
