It’s the end of the school year, (insert yay or groan here, depending on how you feel about this) for me its a Yipee!! It seems to be the custom now to buy a gift for your teacher.
I am a little bit mixed in my thoughts about it. I really don’t think it should be a competition or even obligatory. Last yr, we gave Miss N’s teacher a vintage teacup (that I had bought at a charity shop) and we made it into a tea-cup candle. I thought it was beautiful, and together with a handmade card. I felt it was just the right gift, to show our appreciation for all of her hard work. This year, we bought two small gifts, wrapped them and made the cards.
Any regular readers of my blog, will know how much I love buttons, and they always seem to pop up in my card making.
Here is the first, the present is a candle, tied up with ricrac and a badge. The bird card is made from black felt and material, and a button for an eye
The second is for another teacher, its a chocolate bar, which has her name printed on it with just cream ribbon tieing it up. The card has a cotton ribbon decorated with hearts across it. I have used this for lots of things, and though it was expensive, well worth it!
I would love to know what you think about teachers gifts?
This is what I have made this week, and here is the link to all the other ‘Handmade Thursday’ entries on The White Lily Green blog, please pop along and visit theirs too.

Love the tea cup candle idea. Will try something like that when my daughter is bigger. I worked in three different schools when I was a teacher and had a variety of presents but the handmade things by the children are definitely the best. It’s nice to have something to show what you meant to them.

The teacup candle is very pretty! An unusual gift that you made yourself. I’m sure she loved it. I like the two wrapped gifts, also. They’re so prettily wrapped, and of course I like the handmade cards…I love to make my own cards. By the way, I love buttons, too!
My son usually had two teachers at the schools he attended (one for English studies, reading, writing, etc., and one for mathematics), so that was interesting in getting each one something. But he only liked a few of his teachers in his whole school ‘career’, so trying to get him to give a gift to them wasn’t always easy. One year, when he was seven, he said he didn’t want to give one of his teachers a gift because “she didn’t deserve it.” The remark stunned me coming from such a young person, but I respected his opinion because in this case he was right on the mark about her.
Have a wonderful day,
Marianne.

love the tea cup candle i was hoping to find some pretty teacups to make some of them for k’s teachers gifts this year but our charity shops didn’t come up trumps for me 🙁
I always make gifts for teachers as i refuse to go out buying stuff maybe im just a tightwad but then k’s teachers have always told her they love their gifts. This year katie chose to give them a raggy heart wreath each that i made out of old school dresses …. cost me about 20p to make so i can’t complain lol

Oh to be a teacher in your child’s class! We never bother with gifts unless the teacher is exceptional, this year the teacher is fab and we’ve bought him an itunes voucher, wouldn’t have a clue what to make for him as he’s about 12 and has braces!!! (no sweets in that case). Lovely makes btw. x

I like the tea cup candle as well, I shall be on the look out for odd tea cups in our local charity shops now 🙂
The buttons on cards is a great idea, we make all our own cards now and have never used buttons like this, good stuff 🙂
