Two weeks ago, I was asked to fill out an online survey about my sleep habits by Silent Night Beds. Questions such as, how long it took me to go to sleep, what my routine was, and how many hours sleep I got each night. I answered honestly, and at the time my sleep was actually quite good.
Like most people I guess, I don’t think I get enough sleep, I think especially once you have children, a good nights sleep can feel almost like mythical creature, that don’t believe ever existed. I know, I really should go to bed earlier, and I have little bed time routine, other than attempt to relax before I sleep. I do have bouts of bad sleep, not really insomnia, but sometimes I am surviving on very little sleep. This I find is usually when I have lots on my mind, and it is at these times that I struggle with the most. Recently I bought myself a kindle paperwhite, so I could read in bed without disturbing Tall Dad, and that has helped me immensely.
So after completion of the sleep survey, I was given sent a Magnesium Oil-Goodnight Spray, by BetterYou.
Here is the description of the product on the site :
Magnesium is an essential element in over 350 bio-chemical reactions within our bodies and many of these involve chemical reactions within the brain, particularly those responsible for sleep patterns. BetterYou Goodnight Spray helps promote a good night’s sleep without the morning-after drowsiness.
Magnesium Oil Goodnight Spray is an ideal muscle rub to help maintain normal healthy sleep. The magnesium has been enhanced with the most relaxing essential oils of bergamot, clary sage and chamomile.
In order to use, I needed to apply it (1-3 sprays) onto my skin, and massage the oil in, half and hour before sleep, and preferably after a shower/bath.
So for the past week, each evening, I have been religiously using it each evening. I didn’t however get a show or bath each night, as I tend to do this in the morning instead, but I did a couple of times.
Alas using the spray was coupled with having two of the most stressful weeks I have had in a very long time. But I have kept it going, in hope that it would work, but unfortunately I have not seen any effect of the spray, in fact my sleep (I think because of the stress) it actually has gotten worse. I do put it down to my life at the moment, and I don’t think I am really giving it its best chance.
I’ve not given up though, and I will continue to use the spray, but I’ve also decided to make a list of things I need to do as well. I think I have picked up some bad habits, and I really need to have a little more of a routine in place, in order to get a decent nights shut-eye.
1. Not to use my laptop/iPad an hour before bed.
2. Read my Kindle for a short time before I go to sleep.
3. Drink a warm drink before bedtime. Save the alcohol for the weekend, if at all.
4. Write a list of jobs to do in the evening. Hopefully this will help realise to stress about what I have to do.
5. Go to bed thinking happy thoughts. I’m a great believer in positive thinking and I need to try to practise this before sleep each night.
