Beauty Echos : Dove #feelbeautifulfor

I’m not going to lie, I had a little cry when I watched the Dove video I’m going to share with you today, at the bottom of this post.  It something that I think about a lot and it really brought it home to me that my feelings about myself, and how I look, reflect and have the potential to echo, if you will, on my daughters.  Nia is really at that tricky tween age at 12, and her appearance is something that has great weight.  She’s happy and confident, very bright girl who is such a kind person, and I try to tell her this, that I love her, and she is beautiful as much as I can.

Dove have done some research and found that most women dislike at least one part of their appearance and have admitted that they have spoken about this in front of their child.

I try desperately to not mention my own hang ups about myself and my body, and I have been disappointed in the past when members of my family have done so in front of her.  Its only really when you sit down and think about the little things that you do on a day to day basis, even inadvertently that can, and do reflect on how you feel about yourself.  When I check my appearance in the mirror, craning my neck to see if my bum really does look big in those trousers, distractedly pulling my top down to cover it.  Or when I use my fingers pressed at my temples to pull backwards towards my ears to see what I would look like without those wrinkles around my eyes.  All things that she must see.  I need to be more conscious of what I do I think, rather than what I say.

Research* reveals 69%**of women say their child has seen them engaging in negative body language habits, with more than a third of mothers (34%) admitting that their child has mimicked their negative beauty behaviours. With these stats in mind, Dove is encouraging women to ensure a positive beauty legacy for future generations, by asking them to pledge their positive beauty legacy by sharing who in their life inspires them using #FeelBeautifulFor.
