I had some spare time over the weekend, in-between doing a mammoth DIY and de-cluttering session trying to create more storage in our living room and my office. I was thinking what other things we would like to do to our home. Namely our kitchen. We actually visited my sister-in-laws house, that’s been newly built a couple of weekends ago, and it’s definitely gave me lots of new ideas. I love my kitchen, but there are some definite tweaks 7 years on from when it was first put in, that I would love to make, to make it my dream kitchen.
I think the first thing I would change would be the counter-tops. The black granite has been fantastic, really hard-wearing, so easy to keep clean, and looks as good as new. However I think I should have gone for something lighter in colour, as the black really does absorb the light. I think I’d go for Corian in white. Modern and sleek lines.

We live in a very hard water area, and I would definitely like to have a water softener unit added to my home. I really don’t know why we didn’t do so before, as it makes complete sense. Removing limescale is one of my least favourite jobs, and this would help keep everywhere limescale free. Of course there are many other reasons to go for a water softener unit, including increasing the life of appliances such as dishwashers – see here for more details.
My sister-in-law doesn’t have a kettle, instead she has a built-in coffee machine and a hot water tap instead, I am seriously kicking myself, I didn’t go for both of these. Though maybe with children, it’s not the best idea to have a boiling hot water tap?

This would be another addition I would make to make the kitchen a dream one. Fresh coffee every morning, wouldn’t that be a pleasure to wake up to!
I’d also reconfigure the kitchen so I could have a larder, I’m always so envious of people with larders, I think I’d like a larder more than I would a walk in wardrobe! Everything hidden away, but easy to find it really appeals to me, and as I mentioned at the beginning of this post, we are trying to create more storage in our home. So that’s a few ideas of changes that I would like to make, how about you?
