Our homes are so important. It’s where we work, rest, play and make memories. Last week I attended a British Gypsum event which showcased 3 new products, from the Rooms Made for You range, that are set to change the very fabric of our homes.
Our meeting was at the Shard in the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel. What an amazing place to meet, and boy what a view! If you want to find out more about this amazing building, you can do so HERE with Mari’s World.
Let me start with the Rooms for You, British Gypsum products that I felt was my favourite – Lifestyle Wall.
Plasterboard in your home takes knocks, and is very easily dented. I remember a time when I accidentally knocked the vacuum into our newly painted hallway wall, I could have cried! This new plasterboard – Life Style Wall, is stronger and far more durable than standard plasterboard. That’s not all though, it is such an innovative piece of plasterboard that to fix anything into the wall, you simply need to use a screwdriver.
Think about that for a moment, no need for drills, wall plugs or any other specialist fittings. Just a simple screwdriver and screw, and you can securely attach curtain poles, TV’s and shelves, as well as picture hooks and pins.
If you are bored with what’s on your walls, gone are the days that you need to fill ugly holes left in the plaster. This will just leave the simple small hole from the screw or nail, so super easy to fill. Think of the possibilities and ease that this product would give all of us. We saw it demonstrated with two screws in a hook holding a 12lb weight, and heavy chain with ease. We also got to try it our ourselves, with lifestyle bloggers, managing to fix up to 7 screws into the plasterboard in 1 minute!
Neither my husband or I are the best at DIY, and walls in our fairly newly built home really are our nemesis. I believe Lifestyle Wall is going to be a complete game changer in the industry, whether you are looking at possibly retro fitting the plasterboard, or more likely adding it when you build an extension, loft or garage conversion, all the bigger home improvements that you make, also new build housing projects. This is certainly something we would definitely use when we look at an extension to our home, I wouldn’t consider anything else now I’ve actually seen it in use.
The second product was Thistle Magnetic Plaster. A plaster, that any plasterer can add to a wall to make a wall magnetic. I fell in love with the idea of this, especially for either my work area, kitchen or children’s room….in fact the possibilities of using this are only limited by our imagination. I think the most important thing to note, is it actually works! We tested it out by making our own magnetic things to add to the wall, toy cars, photograph frames, I used a business card and Instagram picture too.
Once the plaster is dry, you use whatever paint that you want on top, even blackboard paint, in exactly the same way ordinary plaster works, then get set to using it! I love the idea of making a perpetual calendar on a wall of an office, and you could add notes with magnets on days that you had appointments, or reminders. Or make it into an art gallery for all of those treasure drawings from your children. I loved Karen from the White Approaches idea, of using the magnetic plaster on the ceiling, to hang things from it.
Thistle Magnetic Plaster is available to purchase online from Wickes : £94.99 in 25kg bags. It’s also available at many building merchants.
Finally Silent Floor. Modern homes are definitely very noisy, what with music, TVs, children, even practising of musical instruments. Many people live in flats, homes that have are attached in some way, but even within our own home, rooms need to used in different ways, and the last thing we need is to be disturbed by excess noise. Silent Floor is the solution that many people have been looking for. It has achieved the seal of approval from the Noise Abatement Society. We heard first hand what a difference Silent Floor would have to a space. You can see me listening in below.

Following fitting of silent floor, there was a substantial reduction of noise. There was barely any in fact. Very impressive, and I can imagine this would have many residential and commercial uses.
Silent Floor is available to purchase through builders merchants.
Are you impressed? I know I was, it was an eye opening afternoon, and an fabulous insight into the revolution of the home that British Gypsum is committed too. Rooms made for you!
