I am a feeder, a hoarder really when it comes to food. In every other area of my house I am constantly re-appraising and decluttering and yes I do, do this with my fridge, making sure it doesn’t have anything out of date, no long forgotten dried up, spring onions lurking in the back. The thing is, for me food is love, and I am determined to fill my family with it. I’ve tried and tried meal planning, and I know that it makes sense. When it comes to food however, I really like to lay my hand to any of my families favourites straight away. So that got me wondering, what the contents of my fridge said about me?
Are you looking to buy a new fridge? There is a great selection HERE with Beko.
So what would be my top 5 items in my fridge I just couldn’t live without.
1. Salad
No matter what, every week I add salad, mainly bags of pre-prepared but add to that cucumber, tomatoes and a few (fresh *ahem*) spring onions, and you always have a side dish for a main meal like pasta, home-made pizza which are all firm favourites with us. I pride myself on being a great rustler up of a salad!
2. Tomato Ketchup (or any other sauce for that matter)
I grew up not realising that ketchup even needed to be kept in the cool, seems strange now looking back. So now I religiously keep it in the fridge alongside the Salad Cream and Mayo. I should add that I will always have unopened extras of these, in a backup cupboard. See I told you, I’m a secret food hoarder!
3. Cream Cheese
Oh cream cheese how I love thee!
Seriously cream cheese is one of those things that I use so often. This was today’s lunch, a spicy black peppercorn variety with spring onion- blimey I think spring onion should go on the top 5 list, I’ve mentioned it so many times! I also add it to other dishes too, especially if I’ve over done the spice, as it cools them down a little.
4. Suntan Cream
I think I read somewhere once, that it keeps better or longer, if you store it in the fridge, and so it kinda stuck. In reality, I’ve never checked if that was right, and it is nicer to apply cold suntan cream in summer, so we carried on.
5. Butter (Lurpak)
I remember when I first tried Lurpak, many years ago at my brother and sister in laws house, and I hated it. I thought it had no flavour at all, almost lard like. As you get older though, your palate must change, as now I don’t buy anything else. Well, that’s a fib actually, as for the first time in years this week, I’ve bought a different brand, I’m not sure I can even bear to try it, maybe I’ll save it for the kids!
So that’s my 5, I wonder what yours would be?
