Collaborative Post
With the ‘what season is it now?’ being hotly debated over on social media, and London Fashion week set for next week too, I thought I would share with you my thoughts on the matter. To me, the Autumn season, and therefore the big wardrobe swap over from Spring/Summer to Autumn/Winter does not happen on the 1st of September. You see by the meteorological calendar, the first day of Autumn is always the 1st September. Whereas in the astronomical calendar autumn (which is defined by the Earth’s axis and orbit around the Sun) it begins on the 23rd September 2019. For me, it’s much simpler than all of that. My birthday is on the 9th, and it’s still Summer (in my mind) until this point, and it’s not until after the 9th that I will put away the summer attire and start with all of that gorgeous layering, cosy jumpers and boots. Easy hey?
This year I’m on a no-buy year, which means unless something has been worn out or completely run out I’m not allowing myself to buy anything. That’s not stopped me looking at the new season trends though. I have so many clothes, I firmly believe with the help of accessories and what I already have, I can emulate lots of the new season trends.
OK, so what trends have caught my eye so far?
Puffy Sleeves
This is going to big I think, as well as more of an overall power suit way of dressing. I definitely have a couple of blouses with puffy sleeves in my wardrobe from previous years, and I love the way this exaggerated shoulder detail looks. It also means that more dressy blouses are back, and this together with detail on the shoulders of dresses has me feeling very happy!
Longer Hems
Another trend that I am all in favour of is ankle length clothing. It’s been years since I chose anything that was knee-length or above. I much prefer maxi or midi. This season is more of an ankle-skimming length, which as I’m quite tall most maxi styles are anyway I already have in my wardrobe, so I’m winning!
Capes
If you invest in any kind of coat, I would recommend one in a cape style. I did, in fact, buy one of these a couple of years ago, and it’s proved my best coat purchase ever! Choose a colour that works with lots of your colder weather clothing. I’d also suggest adding the same colour leather gloves as this helps to create a simple, clean silhouette. This year I’m going to also add some personalised badges to complete the look, and keep it looking unique.
Hair Accessories
I may cheat on this one, as both of my daughters are obsessed with hairbands and they’ve collected a few different ones that I shall be sharing too. They are the perfect final accessory to complete any outfit.
Large Bags
We got to the point where those teeny tiny bags couldn’t get any teenier. They didn’t even fit a purse or mobile in. Now is the time to embrace the extreme opposite and its HUGE totes that are going to be on-trend. The only style one I’m going to struggle with as I’m in love with the classic crossbody camera bag or leather satchel.
I hope you enjoyed my autumn fashion round-up, I’ll try and remember to share some more of the reworked outfit I’ve done on my Instagram this season.
