I love this time of year, do you?
Crisp bright mornings, dew filled cobwebs, walking on crunchy new snow, bundled up in your new winter coat for the year, scarf and gloves. Long dog walks, and hot chocolates with marshmallows upon your return as a treat. Most of all though, I love organising tweaks to my home, in readiness for the winter months. We usually write a list of the jobs that need doing, things like clearing the gutters, and the lawn of any leaves, and giving the grass one final winter mow. Which we actually are doing today! I found a great post, which has more practical ‘Getting your Home ready for Winter’ suggestions, HERE.
Now you are probably wondering why I love all this winter preparation for the home so much? Well I think this is for two reasons. It’s the start of a new season, a time when I get to spend lots of time with my family, and I know Christmas is just around the corner, my absolute favourite time of year. Plus there is something so instinctual, about getting yourself, and home ready for winter, hibernation if you like. The food we eat is even different, and I get to cook old warming favourites again, like spicy lentil dhal and veggie shepherds pie.
The final reason I love it so much is probably because of my love of interiors, I use it as a time to change-up my home, for the coming season. I add accessories in warm colours and some homely touches. I buy coal for my fire in our living room, there is nothing better than a coal fire on a winters day! Adding cosy blankets and cushions to my sofas, and scented candles for the evening. I download the latest books by my favourite authors, and a few box sets that I have missed from the summer months. What’s not to like about the onset of winter really? Yes we need to do some preparation beforehand, but boy is it worth it!

Oh, I love getting the house ready for Christmas/Winter, especially if we have family coming over. Tinsel on the travel cot and everything.
